The Concerned Citizens of Fountain County Inc. rose up in response to the threat of a massive landfill being created in Fountain County Indiana. The roots of the organization go back to the late 1980s when the struggle first began.

It is hard to imagine the size of this landfill – if approved, it would rise 180 feet above flat, open prairie and sink 30 feet below the surface. It is designed to contain an unbelievable 14 million tons of garbage in a county that generates less than 50 thousand tons per year.  It will consume 190 acres of rich farm ground.

The most troubling issue is the fact that this landfill would be located directly above a major aquifer.  Read the article in the FACTS tab to find out more specifics on the geology and the water resources under the proposed landfill.

The name of the applicant’s organization and landfill name has changed many times, reflecting the shape shifting nature of the permitting process that has taken place. Triple G, Space Aire, Greenview, and NJK Farms are a few of the names.  No matter what name it bears, it has always exercised its rights to litigate and has done so at every opportunity.  Lawsuits have been filed at the Federal, State, and County level.  See the HISTORY tab to get a brief description of the twisting trail of tears IDEM and the citizens of Fountain County have trod over the past 20 years.

Please join with us in defending our environment against a landfill that is not needed.  It will generate short term profits for the owner at the expense of the citizens of Fountain County.  It will seriously degrade the quality of life for those who will follow us and continue for many generations beyond that.
