BE AWARE OF THE DANGERS AND INFORM OTHERS
Be informed of the potential dangers to our health, to our drinking water and to our environment. Concerned Citizens of Fountain County Inc. regularly holds public information meetings and events. We will all be affected by the outcome. Tell your family and friends the truth about disease and the effects of the pollution and contamination from landfills. There is an abundance of information on the web. Do some research of your own to learn more.
CONTACT DECISION MAKERS
Our local officials will be responsible to review the application and decide if it meets the zoning requirements and if it is something that the county should allow. PLEASE contact our COUNTY COMMISSIONERS and COUNTY COUNCIL and let them know that WE WANT THEM TO PROTECT OUR COUNTY. NJK has recently filed a lawsuit against the Fountain County Council and Commissioners. Encourage them to stand up to this intimidation and remind them that a “settlement agreement” is likely to lead to further litigation (as has happened with the State). NJK should be required to follow the current laws and regulations that we all have to follow. Since Fountain County now has zoning regulations in place, our local officials will be the first line of defense against granting special exemptions to the applicant.
As far as IDEM is concerned, Travis Murphy is the IDEM permit manager for this application. He is responsible for overseeing the permitting process and is available to answer your questions concerning this particular permit application or the permitting process in general. Contact him at (317) 232-8734 or by e-mail at tmurphy@idem.in.gov. Here are other IDEM contacts.
It would be helpful to keep this issue before our State and Federal Legislators as they are concerned about environmental issues that have a long term impact on our land. Legislative and political efforts have a role to play in decisions of this nature. Contact your FEDERAL and STATE Representatives.
